OpenFlashMaps (OFM) is a free and open source solution for flash-based map visualizations (data maps) that can be embedded into webpages. OFM runs completely standalone and doesn’t rely on any web service like GMaps or OpenStreetMaps.
Current Features
- Support for different map projections (Robinson, Mercator, Miller Cylindrical, Gall-Peters, Wagner VII, Winkel-Tripel, Nell-Hammer, Mollweide, Hatano Asymmetrical Equal Area)
- Highly customizable appearance
- Pan & zoom navigation
- Basic event handling via JS
- Data display in color maps and color scales
- released under GPLv3 on SourceForge.net
Current To-Dos
- Package a starter pack ZIP file with all demos and a simple readme and upload it to SourceForge
- Building more maps (e.g. detailed maps of all continents)
- Image markers like in GMaps
- Performance optimization
- Pseudo threading for better UI flow
- Some documentation would be nice, too
- Find native english speakers who correct my grammar errors
