Welcome to Open Flash Maps!

This project is not maintained any more. Instead, I’m now working on the SVG based mapping framework Kartograph

OpenFlashMaps (OFM) is a free and open source solution for flash-based map visualizations (data maps) that can be embedded into webpages. OFM runs completely standalone and doesn’t rely on any web service like GMaps or OpenStreetMaps.

Current Features

  • Support for different map projections (Robinson, Mercator, Miller Cylindrical, Gall-Peters, Wagner VII, Winkel-Tripel, Nell-Hammer, Mollweide, Hatano Asymmetrical Equal Area)
  • Highly customizable appearance
  • Pan & zoom navigation
  • Basic event handling via JS
  • Data display in color maps and color scales
  • released under GPLv3 on SourceForge.net

Current To-Dos

  • Package a starter pack ZIP file with all demos and a simple readme and upload it to SourceForge
  • Building more maps (e.g. detailed maps of all continents)
  • Image markers like in GMaps
  • Performance optimization
  • Pseudo threading for better UI flow
  • Some documentation would be nice, too :)
  • Find native english speakers who correct my grammar errors
